CHRW – Radio Western

Radio Western is a community based radio station that counts on the support of both the student and London community. We are one of your only sources for unique local voices telling local stories, in a variety of languages spoken right here in London. Radio Western has been providing an alternative perspective in the Forest City for 36 years!

Our volunteers learn new skills and gain comprehensive training in areas such as marketing and promotions, conducting interviews, writing and airing news reports, sports broadcasting and radio production.

There are many ways to get involved with Radio Western from volunteering and work study programs to supporting our fundraising campaigns. The possibilities are endless.

The Gazette

For 113 years, the Gazette has been keeping a watchful eye on our campus.

We investigate important student issues like mental health, food insecurity and provincial policies to keep students informed. And we explore topics like the latest fads, technology and sports to keep our campus entertained.

This place has been a training ground for Western students who’ve gone on to professional careers like journalism, public relations, communications, and even photography.

Volunteering is simple. Our office is on the second floor of the UCC (Rm 263) and we are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Just walk in and tell us what you’re passionate about. Writing? Photographing? Filming? Designing? We’ll get you started.

Everyone at the Gazette began with their first step into the office. And now, we’re a part of a collective of student writers, photographers and artists.

As a volunteer, there’s no experience required, and there’s no set time commitment, but as you move up the tiers, you’ll see how you can get involved with us. Let us break it down:

The Duke of Edinburgh Club

About Us:

The Western Duke of Edinburgh’s Club was created to give UWO students an avenue to begin and complete their involvement with the Internationally recognized Duke of Edinburgh Award. The club facilitates and encourages students to grow their interests through individually oriented skill development, community service, physical fitness and expeditions/explorations. Within the purpose of the club is to form a social environment that brings together students with similar interests, creating an atmosphere of encouragement, experience sharing, and dedication. The club will facilitate networking between our club members and other local, national, and international organizations.

The award is achieved by students making a bimonthly commitment to take part in physical recreation, community volunteering, and personal skill development of their choice. The award is internationally recognized for developing individuals who are dedicated, interesting, and active within their communities. It leaves requirements open-ended for students to decide their activities based upon their interests, and it also allows students to complete the award at their own pace. The Western Duke of Edinburgh’s Club is meant for UWO students to become involved, build a strong campus community, and to develop their own personal interests through this unique opportunity.
